Get to Know Me
I am a qualified level 7 Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I work within the relational integrative model and carry out my role under the ethical framework of BACP. I am a warm and empathetic professional with a natural person-centred approach and understand the importance of accepting people for who they are.
I chose this profession because of my own diverse background and the absence of this support within my community, and other minority groups.
My aspiration to become a counsellor was not only based on my desire to counsel individuals but also to raise awareness about mental health in different communities, made up of diverse cultures in the UK. I am aware of the scarcity of counsellors from ethnic minority and religious groups. Being a British born, South Asian, Muslim female, this has given me the opportunity to understand and be aware of difficulties of not being understood due to the cultural differences, barriers and culture clash, or even being treated differently for belonging to a certain religion or an ethnic group. I can sympathise with the disharmony and the confusion it can have on emotional and mental health.
Being trilingual, I can speak and communicate in English, Bengali, and Urdu. Though I aspire to help the BAME communities, my counselling doors are open to all backgrounds, thus far my clientele have predominantly been white British.
Truly helped me heal.
